by Lynn Retzlaff ~ DOTR Rocky Reporter Chambers in the United States date back to 1768. There are chambers at the local, state, national and global level. Local chambers are formed to help area businesses by offering membership benefits such as business advice, networking, advertising, seminars and workshops. They are active in the political realm on behalf of their business community. They are advocates for their members and their community as a whole.
Since chambers are developed and run independently of each other there is no cookie cutter effect. They have their own mission statements and goals. Some chambers handle tourism while others branch their tourism off into a separate bureau. Some are large enough to offer their members discounted health insurance while others are small and must limit hours due to less staff.
The one characteristic all chambers have in common is their desire to help. They offer their members a plethora of business tools to help them grow and succeed. They offer their community resources such as a calendar of events, business listings, historical information and answers to questions they may have about their hometown. Visitors to the area will find listings of lodging, dining, local government and even relocation information.
Do you live or own a business in one of our “Heart of the Rock” communities? Are you looking to visit or possibly relocate to the area? Find out what our local chambers have to offer you!
